Born in Minnesota, Hagen's childhood was filled with "constant travel" throughout the United States, fueling an already rich imagination and exposing him to a steady flow of new people and ideas.
At age 18 he left his midwestern home to study filmmaking in Hollywood, California. While developing a portfolio as a model and actor there he discovered a natural passion for photography.
Hagen eventually returned to the midwest where he formally studied Fine Art Photography, earning a BFA in 2014 and an MFA in Digital Cinema from the University of Wisconsin in 2021.
